Cry My Beloved Children

Cry my beloved children
For the big barn and small grave
Await you
The Cape Flats can only pave
A dangerous hue
Not a rainbow for the brave
Just shades of dark blue
Cry my beloved children

Cry my beloved children
Innocence stood no chance
Devoured by hate
Not of race, but a dance
To the tune of fate
Which shebeen gave the best advance
To the drug lords at their gate
Cry my beloved children

Cry my beloved children
Do not give up hope
Neither the army nor church can solve
The avaricious depravity of dope
Follow Mandela’s resolve
To fight the tight rope
Of despair, and revolve
To laugh, my beloved children.
