How well do you know a loved one?
How tuned to the feelings and actions of constant companions
Can your partner, your neighbour, your closest of friends,
Keep a powerful, visceral trait from your eyes and from your minds
How easy is it to deceive?
Easy, so easy, even without trying
Ten years we had known her, delicate, feline, elegant and prim,
Always civil, politely refusing all fare;
Nothing passed her lips but a contented sigh and smile
As she passed by, and loitered, with friendly neighbourly intent,
Until today,
She came, intentionally, not accidentally, with a rabbit in her mouth
A young rabbit, careless, obviously, with a whole life ahead
That was now measured in minutes not years,
Which she tortured, killed several times, and inelegantly eat.
Easily, so easily, such a surprise.
