Several poems have their origins in contemporary politics and need little explanation.

Orchids Lost in Congress

Those who say
I will only say
What I think
Are doomed to end their days
With no-one at their graves
Save others who dance on the brink

The art of diplomacy
Getting your way with magnanimity
Giving away what not matters
Generosity that deceives to flatter
But keeping behind the brick
To snuff out the candle’s wick

Tea parties are great
For those under eight
Fun, no responsibility
Intellectual infidelity
No compassion from me
’Case it sets you free
